Should Pay Per Click Be a Part of Your MLM Marketing Approach?

by Eric on February 26, 2010

When it comes to MLM marketing, you can go in any number of directions. You might decide that your best method of marketing is just simple word-of-mouth. You may decide to put flyers out in particular areas or do direct mailing. You have to decide whether or not your main initiatives and goals are to sell the products or recruit people and cater your marketing plan around that.

Your marketing plan can include many different components. In fact, it really should be varied so that you can get the best results. In other words, if your marketing plan only includes doing direct mail, you’re going to find yourself spending a lot of money for a very low rate of return. On the other hand, if you focus most of your time online and never meet people in person, your going to find that you do get a lot of leads but most of them don’t pan out. You have to balance the way you market your business.

Part of your MLM marketing plan might be pay per click marketing. You’ve seen these ads when you pull up a search in Google, for instance. These are the clickable ads on the right hand side. Whether you know it or not, these ads are paid for by their sponsors and they are charged a particular amount per click depending on a number of factors including how much competition they have. Every time you click on one of these ads, it costs someone money. But, if you are a qualified lead it might be worth it to the advertiser to have you click on their ad.

If you don’t know what you’re doing, pay per click advertising can become expensive and can really do a number on your marketing budget. You must set it up so that you have a per day rate that you don’t go above. If you don’t set a cap on the per day rate, you can find yourself with an enormous marketing bill at the end of the month. In fact, you could find yourself accidentally spending hundreds or thousands of dollars every day.

So should you use pay per click advertising in your MLM marketing plan? It’s really hard to say because a lot of it depends on how good your ads are, what your click through rate is and how much of the marketing budget you have to spend each month. You must decide what you are willing to invest in the way of a monthly budget. Then, you can assess your competition for those keywords and decide whether or not it is worth your time to invest in pay per click marketing.

Hey Eric,

Balancing your marketing is so important. Like the old saying, “Can put all your eggs in one basket.” Some days all of your marketing vehicle are producing and some just one. But in the long run you are constantly winning.

Have a great weekend…

Eric,

It sure does depend. Pay Per Click is not for everyone. It took me some time to finally master it. I use the word master loosely because it’s a learning process.

It can be well worth your time though if done right.

Hi Eric,

I think the main thing is you’ve got to have something to sell at a low enough cost that it’s a “no-brainer” for your prospects…

But also a high enough cost so you can actually make up for your advertising budget.

Then it’s all about funneling people through your pipeline until the raving fans come out the other end and sign up with you.

I think a major piece people are missing when it comes to this is a unique selling proposition that will set them apart.

I’ve been working on one for the past few months now and I’m going to start with Facebook pay-per-click over Google.

Which do you prefer?

Hey Eric,

Honestly, I think Pay Per click is one of the hardest to master parts of online marketing. Most people do it all wrong. And when you think you have it down, Google changes the rules.

There is no quicker way to generate leads online than adwords though, so we all have to learn it. I recommend you don’t waste thousands of dollars trying to learn it on your own. That banner on the right that says “free leads using Google Adwords” leads to one of the best programs on the market.

Derek,
I don’t have enough experience with Facebook yet to know if it’s better than Oogle. Lately, I have been doing very little pay per click because I stumbled onto some pretty good results using banner ads. I am getting a lot cheaper clicks and cost per leads out of them.

Thanks for the comment
Eric
