Forget You G**gle Pay Per Click| The Way I Generate My MLM Leads Is B…. A*s

by Eric on February 17, 2010

These days, if you are a home business Pay Per Click advertiser, you are probably ready to tell Google to “Forget You”.  I can’t blame you with that.  Recently the web giant has begun a crack down (affectionately called the “Slap”)  on “Get Rich Quick” ads, whether they are that or not.  What is a PPC advertiser to do to continue generating a steady flow of MLM leads?

In steps my favorite MLM lead generation paid strategy, Banner Ads!  You might be thinking, those things are old school and they don’t work.  On the contrary my friend, I am generating between 5-10 lazer targeted leads per day.  I am going to let you in on the secrets that I use to generate these leads with banner ads.

Keyword research is key to any kind of advertising, but much more important here to get the right leads.  The way we will use keywords that we are going after is to search for them online and see what kind of sites we get returned.  Once we have identified some sites that match our market, we will proceed to find out how to advertise on them.  If they don’t have a place to advertise on their site, they are probably hooked in with a media buying company such as, BuySellAds, BlogAds, etc.  The good thing about this kind of searching is that even if the site you want isn’t available, you can use the demographics of the site to find other places to put your ads.  Understanding the demographics is key in banner advertising.  You don’t want your ads running on a site whose demos are Young girls when your product is meant for males between 35-43.  Quantcast and Alexa are two great sites for starting your demographics search.

Now that we have the right keywords and demographics for our target market, we need to get our banners.  Here, you have several options.  Most times the companies or affiliate products you represent will already have banners together that you can just copy and insert your tracking links.  If there aren’t stock banners available, you can create your own on Photoshop (or some other similar software) or outsource them.  There are some great companies out there that will create banners and can help you with layouts and colors for under a couple of hundred bucks.

Now comes the great part for those PPC guys out there.  When placing banner ads, you can choose to either pay per click (familiar, huh) or by cost per mille (CPM).  The even better news is that a lot of PPC guys are used to paying 2-3 bucks per click where, with banners, you can often get clicks for less than $1.  The double better news is that the CPM method gets even cheaper.  With CPM, you are paying per thousand impressions on the website you are advertising.  It isn’t uncommon to get CPMs for under 75 cents and you will often find that you get a couple clicks CPM, which makes your CPC (cost per click) around 38 cents.

The last thing that you will need to decide is whether you want the banner to lead directly to your offer or to a landing page to presell the prospects.  A good rule of thumb is if the product is over $100, then you need to take prospects to a landing page.  Now this can depend on how good of keyword and demographic research you have done.  If you have pinpointed both of these and are showing on the right site, you might not need a landing page.  To be safe, when in doubt, create a landing page to ensure your conversions go up.

I realize banner ads are not as sexy to most as PPC, but your conversions can be the same and cost less with this method of advertising.  If you are looking to pick up the pieces after getting the Google Slap, look to banner advertising to get your lead generation back on its feet and generating that steady stream of MLM leads that you have become accustomed to.

Hey Eric,

After reading this, It makes so much sense to use Banner Ads. You did mentioned that a lot of the times the banner ad is already created for you if you are using an affiliate. As I put this into place I might have additional questions for you.

Chat with you later…

Hey Eric, hmmmmm Banner ads eh…. (ha) I like the sound of that.

I will admit I have dabbled before but never focused on it. I will definitely be taking a note from your book in the future.

Great post.

Hey Eric,

I think this is great information for anyone. People underestimate the value of banner ads. With all the issues Google is causing, marketers are finally starting to broaden their vision.

You may have posted this at the perfect time to actually get the right level of attention. Once people try it, they will wish they had earlier.
